Pepper is a smart home platform capable of supporting a wide range of smart devices all in one place, from cameras to thermostats and lights. The app is developed as a white-label product for a multitude of brands in the smart home market who rely on Pepper to power the digital side of their offer. Over several months, I worked with Pepper on the developement of multiple features and on making their newly redesigned application launch-ready for two brands making use of Pepper's white label platform.

With argo working as Pepper's design partner for many years, I joined the project just as we were preparing to launch a redesigned version of the app and worked on building a layer of features to strengthen Pepper's Home Security offer.

By 2020, most of Pepper's clients were positioned in the home security market, competing with the likes of Ring and Google's Nest with their own line of security cameras powered by Pepper's smart home technology and app. One of the focus for the app at the time was to offer a new set of security features to reinforce the Pepper app strength as a smart home security platform and not just a smart home app.

2020 also saw Pepper launch a complete redesign of their app for Momentum, their largest customer. With hundreds of thousands of Momentum users in the United States, we needed to ensure a smooth transition while creating excitement for Momentum's new look and feel.

With the redesign providing a new global experience in the app, I was notably tasked with updating the various controls available for Momentum devices. This include:

• Motion detection zones settings
  
• Motion sensor settings
• Siren controls
• Garage door controls
  

Other activities included a complete redesign of the subscriptions and payments flows, as well as the design of an onboarding system to gradually help people find their bases in the new app.

By following up on the study with a feature prioritization workshop with Pepper's product team, we helped identify quick and impactful fixes in the app. For example, we discovered that many users found the fixed 20 seconds recording too short to capture useful footage when an event occurred around their homes. By simply allowing users set the duration of automated recordings in the app, Pepper could turn their app into a much more reliable security system.

In parallel, we also presented Pepper with long-term feature ideas based on the insight gathered during the research.
